SCP Management / Z80 Labs, located in Buffalo, NY is the manager of numerous venture capital funds with that invests principally in primarily early stage tech startups.

 

The Controller position will report to the CFO and mainly be responsible for the accounting related to the venture capital funds and the management company. This role is hands-on will and will also be very involved with all aspects of the business including finance and accounting, treasury, risk management, and compliance. The main responsibilities of the position include:

 

Venture Capital Funds/Partnerships:

• Assist with the preparation of quarterly financial statements for various partnerships

• Perform capital calls, distributions, and preparation of capital account statements

• Track investor distributions and contributions, investment funding, outstanding investment balances and remaining capital commitments

• Assist the preparation of deadline-driven reporting processes, including portfolio company valuations, partner allocations, capital account statements and financial statements

• Assist with LP reporting and respond to all regular investor inquiries

• Assist with the tax preparation process including K-1s and partnership returns

• Assist with the audits of the venture capital funds

 

Management Company:

• Assist the CFO in processes and procedures required to maintain the firm’s status as a Registered Investment Advisor

• Responsible for general ledger, financial reporting, tax reporting and budgets

• Administer and record payroll, 401k and related benefits for the Management Company

 

The ideal candidate will hold the following qualities:

• Approx. 4-6 years of total experience, a mix of public accounting and private industry, venture capital or private equity experience a plus

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting

• CPA a plus

• Technically proficient to accurately analyze and apply GAAP

• Proficient in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

• High level of energy, commitment and flexibility

• Excellent written and oral communications skills

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

 

This is full-time position and comes with a commensurate benefits package.  Salary DOE.
